New inorganic/organic hybrid fibers exhibiting catalytic and permanent birefringence behaviors |

It is still rare to find inorganic semiconductors that can be stabilized as a solution form. If available, such a behavior can be widely applied for practical applications. In this work, we report one-dimensional inorganic semiconductors APdPS4 (A = Na, K) can be solubilized in polar organic solvents and 1∞[PdSP4-] anions form nanowires. Such nanowires form environmentally stable, flexible inorganic/organic polymeric hybrid fibers by reacting with specific polymers. Nanowire structure is intact in hybrid fibers. Such hybrid fibers show unusual physical and chemical properties that are not observed from bulk KPdPS4. They exhibit permanent birefringence and excellent catalytic properties, for example, cross-coupling reaction that is a versatile route to aryl compounds for pharmaceuticals and find chemicals, due to the presence of 1∞[PdSP4-] nanowires |
