제목 The Origin of Conductivity Enhancement of Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) Films through Polar Solvent Treatment
초록 We investigated the mechanism of a 500-fold conductivity enhancement in poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) as induced by the addition of a polar solvent and a solvent bath treatment. The transport, optical, and structural analyses indicate that the initial conductivity enhancement from 2 to 700 S/cm is due to the insulator-to-metal transition by an enhanced π-π coupling of the conducting PEDOT:PSS layers with the change in transport mechanism from quasi-2D variable range hopping to fluctuation-induced tunneling, which originates from improved structural ordering by the addition of a polar solvent. Further conductivity enhancement from 700 to 1000 S/cm with additional solvent bath treatment was attributed to an increase in the carrier concentration by a reduction in the sample’s PSS content.
