The amount of disorder in highly doped conjugated polymers govern how effectively the charge transport phenomena occurs as it hinders molecular geometry or π-orbital overlap. Herein, we systematically investigate the effect of counter-ion-induced disorder on the thermoelectric (TE) charge transport of the poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) with multi-cyano functionalized counter-ions by anion exchange. The result shows different properties in terms of crystallinity, density of states (DOS), and polaron behavior according to the amount of disorder in PEDOT. In conclusion, we produce a remarkable power factor of 630.6 μW·m−1·K−2 and figure-of-merit ZT of 0.21 with the lowest amount of disorder. This work provides a strategy to obtain high TE performance through optimizing the Coulomb interaction between charge carriers and counter-ions. |
