Ceramic-metal core-shell type spherical composites consisting immobilized metallic silver nanoparticles on silica spheres were fabricated via chemical routes. Silver nanoparticles were successfully immobilized on the SiO2 spheres, which were treated by 3-(aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (APTMS) for surface functionalization, by using aminophilic nature of silver particles. The particle size distribution and coverage of the silver nanoparticles on the SiO2 spheres could be controlled by adjusting processing parameters including the concentration of polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) and silver nitrate(AgNO3), reduction conditions, surface chemistry, etc. The silver nanoparticles with an average size 9-12 nm on the surface of the SiO2 nanospheres were characterized by Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscope. Absorption spectra of all the core-shell nanoparticle colloids were carried on UV−vis spectroscopy. |
