Fabrication of polypyrrole-wrapped halloysite nanotube composite and its electrorheological characteristics |

In this study, conducting polypyrrole wrapped halloysite nanotube (PPy/HNT) composite was prepared through an in-situ polymerization process of pyrrole monomer in the presence of HNT dispersion and its electrorheoloical (ER) properties were investigated. Morphologies of both HNT and PPy/HNT composite were confirmed via scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy images. The synthesized PPy/HNT composite was also analyzed by physisorption analyzer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analyzer. The ER properties of PPy/HNT composite dispersed in silicone oil were measured via a rotational rheometer under different electric field strengths. It was observed that the PPy/HNT based ER fluid exhibited typical ER behaviors. |
