Bone regenerating properties of surface modified Silicon-doped BCP micro-channeled granular bone filler in rabbit femoral head defect |
초록 |
Silicate-doped biphasic calcium phosphate (SiBCP) granular bone fillers of 1mm in diameter and height with seven 100-μm micro-channels were surface modified with collagen and loaded with BMP-2 (SM-SiBCP). SiBCP and SM-SiBCP granules were implanted on 5mm size defects on rabbit femoral heads and compared the bone regeneration against a control after 1, 4 and 8 weeks. Significant bone formation is already observed in the 1 week samples implanted with the granules according to the reconstructed micro-CT images although some inflammation occurred with the SM-SiBCP from the histological analysis. After 4 weeks, bone formation reached up to 44.72% for SiBCP and 46.31% for SM-SiBCP with half of the total volume being mature bone. After 8 weeks of implantation, bone formation from SM-SiBCP became significantly highest at 62.76%, SiBCP at 53.62% and control with 53.90% although completely composed of soft tissue. These results showed that the surface modified micro-channeled granules showed potential for bone tissue regeneration. |
