제목 The current status and future perspective of microalgal biodiesel production technology
초록 Microalgae-derived biofuels have received much attentions from industry as well as academic research sectors because of the increasing concerns over the global warming and insecurity of fossil fuels. Advantages of using microalgae as a biofuel feedstock over conventional biomass are higher lipids content per cell and areal lipid productivity, the utilization of non-arable land, and cultivation availability using various wastewaters. Microalgae could fix carbon dioxide from industrial flue gas sources such as coal and petroleum burnings. Commercialization of microalgae-based biofuels is still confronted with technological and economical difficulties in all aspects of up- and down-stream processes including microalgae selection, mass-cultivation, harvesting, de-watering, extraction of valuable bio-components, and biofuels conversions (e.g. biodiesel), and residual biomass utilization. In this talk, the current status of microalgal biodiesel production technology, mainly from KIER would be introduced. Further research directions for the practical application of microalgae-based biodiesel would be also discussed.
