Development of a new thermodynamic model of the HI-I2-H2O system |

The recycle process of hydrogen iodide (HI) has been an important issue for increasing the hydrogen production in Sulfur-Iodine (S-I) cycle. For this purpose, thermodynamic models for HI-I2-H2O mixture (HIx) system (ex. UVa and GA) have been developed to design the distillation tower. However, the heat capacity calculated by the existing models deviates from experimental data due to complex behavior of HIx. In this work, a new thermodynamic model based on the eNRTL (electrolyte Non-Random Two-Liquid) has been proposed by adding a simple reaction term. The eNRTL parameters were regressed by phase equilibria experimental data of HIx. It was found that the new model showed good agreement with experimental data on phase equilibria as well as heat capacity compared with previous models. |
