제목 Ozone Treatment of Carbon Fibers on Crack Resistance of Composites
초록 In this work, the effect of ozone treatments of carbon fibers was investigated in crack resistance properties of carbon fibers-reinforced composites. The surface properties of the carbon fibers were determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), FT-IR, and contact angles. Crack resistance properties of the composites were investigated using two types of testing method, namely critical energy release rate mode I (GIC) and mode II (GIIC). As experimental results, the O1S/C1S ratio of the carbon fiber surfaces was increased after ozone treatment, due to the development of the oxygen-containing functional groups, or the specific components of surface free energy of the carbon fibers. It was found that the crack resistance properties of the composites have been improved by the ozone treated, which could probably be attributed to the increase of the degree of adhesion at interfaces between fibers and resin matrix.
