Synthesis of electrically conductive polyethylene-octene elastomer/polyaniline composites for an electroactive actuator |

Electrically driven shape memory composites based on polyethylene-octene elastomer(POE) and polyaniline(PANi) were prepared by inverted emulsion method. Polymerization of aniline was carried out in a solution of POE/toluene as the continuous phase with dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid as the dopant. Dicumyl peroxide(1phr) was added into the composites, and the dried composites were then cured at 150℃ for 10min. EDX-SEM reveals that PANi was dispersed uniformly in the POE matrix. DSC reveals the composites have a melting transition at 40℃. When the content of PANi was 60wt%, the electrical conductivity of the composite increased to 1.40ⅹ10-3 S/cm. The percolation threshold was found to be at the vicinity of 40wt% PANi content. The blends exhibited a voltage-triggered shape memory effects. |
