Core/Shell Volume Effect on Wear Properties of Fibrous Monolithic Al2O3-(m-ZrO2)/t-ZrO2 Composites |

Wear behavior of the novel fibrous monolithic Al2O3-(m-ZrO2)/t-ZrO2 ceramics were evaluated and the effect of core/shell volume fraction on the wear loss were investigated. Five different Al2O3-(m-ZrO2)/t-ZrO2 composites with fine core/shell microstructure were fabricated with 20/80, 30/70, 40/60, 50/50 and 60/40 core/shell volume fraction. The hardness and fracture toughness values varied from 1333 Hv to 1447 Hv units and 8.1 MPa.m1/2 to 5.1 MPa.m1/2 for 20/80 and 60/40 core/shell composites, respectively. The wear behavior of the different volume fraction composites were investigated using the wear profiles by the SEM technique, as well as the characterization of wear losses and the wear depths. |
