제목 | High Faraday Rotation of Yittrium Iron Garnet(YIG)/Poly(Hydrogensilsesquioxane) Nanocomposites for MO Devices |
초록 | Composite materials which consist of ferri- or ferromagnetic nano particles in transparency matrix are expected to have a large residual magnetization and coercive force because of their nano magnetic domain structure, and has potential for superior magneto-optical properties compared with single or polycrystalline materials. Garnet nano particles of Y3Fe5O12 and Bi1.8Y1.2Fe5O12 were prepared by coprecipitation and annealing processes, and were dispersed in polymer matrix. Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet nano particles were stable in polymer matrix during curing process because curing temperature of HSSQ(Hydrosilsesquioxane) was low enough to avoid pyrolysis of Bi-YIG and the reaction between Bi-YIG nano particles and the matrix. The annealing was carried out at 700℃ for 4 hr and milled using Planary Ball Mill for making nanoparticles. The obtained particles were identified as garnet by X-ray diffraction. The magnetic nanocomposites showed a Figure of merit of 1.36 degree in the visible wavelength region. It is expected that Bi-YIG/polymer nanocomposites are suitable for large-size visual MO(magneto-optic) devices. |
