Solvent-Induced Control of Kinetics and Thermodynamics of Block Copolymer Self-Assembly at Droplet Surface for Tuning Particle Shape |
초록 |
Shape-anisotropic particles received great attention due to their unique shape dependent functional behavior. Especially, non-spherical shaped polymeric particles are more of an importance for their limitation in fabrication strategies with diverse shape. Recently, facile approaches for control of polymeric particle structure that involves precise tuning of interfacial energies between block copolymer (BCP) emulsion droplet and surrounding has emerged. Key of adjusting interfacial properties was using surfactants that have preferential affinity to each block. Here, we introduce another novel strategy where evaporation rate (ER) of organic solvent determines the final morphology of BCP particle. While ellipsoid shaped particle was formed at fast ER, spherical onion-like particle was formed at slow ER. Delicate interplay of thermodynamics and kinetics of BCP self-assembly inside emulsion droplet was a key in showing dramatic difference in final morphology that is dependent on ER. |
