Fabrication of highly-ordered Au-Polystyrene inverse opals for combination of localized surface plasmon resonance and photonic bandgap |

The structures of inverse opals containing metal nanoparticles have attracted plenty of interests since the combination of localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR) of metal nanoparticles and photonic bandgap of inverse opal can have unusual optical properties. Most of preceding researches on those structures have used under 10 nm-size metal nanoparticles. Therefore, it is inevitable that the arrangements of metal nanoparticles embedded in large polymer particles have been random due to their extremely small sizes. LSPR depends on the shapes of metal nanoparticles clusters and in this study, we demonstrate this phenomenon by using considerably large gold nanoparticles(≥50 nm) to achieve high degree of control of the interstitial sites of gold nanoparticles between large polystyrene nanoparticles. We produce several shapes of gold nanoparticle clusters by control the ratios of size and concentration between two types of nanoparticles and analyze the differences in optical properties. |
