We report the novel thermoresponsive random copolymers, [p(DMA-co-PVHC)], tunable by copper coordinate interaction. DMA and 3-vinylbenzaldehyde were copolymerized to produce a series of p(DMA-co-VBA) copolymers by RAFT polymerization. After the polymerization, the resulting p(DMA-co-VBA) copolymers were reacted with 4-phenylthiosemicarbazide to yield the target thermoresponsive polymers, [p(DMA-co-PVHC)]. MW, MWD and the ratio of the final incorporation of DMA and VBA were determined by SEC and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Turbidimetrys were carried out by UV-Visible spectroscopy, DLS measurements. Cu2+ dependent optical transmission studies of the aqueous solutions of the resulting copolymers with stoichiometry calculation involving molar concentrations of Cu2+ at 650 nm were measured as a function of temperature and showed that the polymers responded sharply to a small concentrations of Cu2+. The particle size in aqueous solutions measured by DLS. |
