The multi-layered hydrogels consisting of two layers with different mechanical properties were fabricated to control various curvatures. However, the designated curvature in self-folding of multi-layered hydrogel fails often to cover the resulting curvature. In this study, we hypothesized that the interfacial layer would be formed by the diffusion of the pre-gelled solution between two layers in the bi-layered hydrogel. First, the interfacial layer was confirmed by simulating the bi-layered gel using the tri-metal strip system and also by controlling diffusion time of the pre-gelled solution from 0 to 10min. As a result, the bi-layered hydrogels were formed in the 2.6-fold increases of the radius of curvature in response to diffusion time. Overall, this new design factor to prepare the multi-layered hydrogel would be actively used in tissue engineering, and micro-scale actuators. |
