Sulfonated polysulfone(SPSF) and poly(ether ether ketone)(SPEEK) were synthesized by reacting with trimethyl chlorosilane/chlorosulfuric acid and sulfuric acid used as sulfonating reagent, respectively. Each cation-exchange membranes for vanadium-redox flow battery were prepared by a solution casting method. The physical and chemical characteristics of each membrane were analyzed by measuring FTIR, TGA, DSC, UTM, ion exchange capacity(IEC), water uptake and proton conductivity. The thermal stability, IEC and proton conductivity of SPSF and SPEEK membranes were higher than them of traditional nafion membranes. As a result of charge-discharge test, the energy efficiency of vanadium-redox flow battery were 54.7-65.4% for SPSF membrane, 76.4-88.1% for SPEEK membrane. These energy efficiency values were similar to them of the nafion membranes. These cation-exchange membranes can be used for polymer electrolyte membrane of redox flow battery. |
