Colloidal Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles as Strong Adhesive for Gel Adhesives and Regenerative Medicine |

Colloidal mesoporous silica (CMS) nanoparticle solutions are explored as adhesive for hydrogels and biological tissue. Due to the high specific outer surface area, CMS nanoparticles (dpore ~ 2.7 nm) show higher adhesion strength than nonporous colloidal silica nanoparticle suspension. At lower concentration than 1 wt-%, adhesion energy (Gadh) of CMS nanoparticle solutions is 7 times more at best case when they are used as adhesive between PDMA hydrogel films. In case of larger mesopore (dpore ~ 5.25 nm), adhesion energy reaches around 25 J·m2, which is almost twice than small mesopore case. Finally, the mesoporous nanoparticles were used in healing wound on a mouse skin which are rapid and strong. More importantly, porous silica can be degraded quickly in biological media. |
