제목 Dynamic Shape-Transforming Particles by Controlled Assembly of Block Copolymers and Stimuli-Responsive Polymer Surfactants
초록 Development of shape-changing particles in response to external stimulus has been a long-thought goal for producing bio-inspired, reactive materials. Herein, we report a temperature-driven transformation of the shape and morphology of polymer particles using the assembly of polystyrene-b-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) block copolymers (BCPs) and temperature-responsive polymer surfactants, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM). The PNIPAM polymers act as temperature-responsive surfactant with the following two important roles. (1) The PNIPAM polymers stabilized the droplets as P4VP-selective surfactant, creating a nearly neutral interface for PS and P4VP domains together with other PS selective surfactants and generating the formation of the anisotropic PS-b-P4VP particles. (2) More importantly, the PNIPAM determined the overall shape and morphology of these two different BCP particles depending on the temperature of the system.
