DNA-Coated Polymer Nanoparticles from Block Copolymer Micelles |

DNA-coated particles are promising building blocks for self-assembly which can realize many unconventional super-structures due to its orthogonal and addressable binding characteristics. We demonstrate a strategy for synthesis of DNA-coated polymeric nanoparticles using block copolymer micelles as a template. Diblock copolymers, polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene oxide), having azide group are self-assembled into spherical micelles, of which cores are then swollen with styrene monomer and polymerized resulting PEO-N3 brushed polystyrene nanoparticles. Their diameter is controlled in the range of 65~150 nm by changing the amount of monomer absorbed to the micelles. DNA strands are conjugated with particle surfaces through copper-free, click chemistry. Finally, using the DNA-coated polymer nanoparticles we made various cluster structure through temperature control. We expect that our strategy can be used for designing various kinds of DNA-coated polymeric nanoparticles |
