Electrically conducting shells were encapsulated by depositing metallic materials around polymer core particles. In this study, composite particles composed of polymer core and metallic shell have been prepared by the electroless plating with conducting metals on monodisperse polymer microspheres. As core polymer particles, monodisperse polystyrene particles were synthesized by dispersion polymerization technique. After some pretreatment, metallic ions were reduced to metals deposited on polystyrene seed particles. The morphology of polystyrene/metal composite particles was investigated to see the effect of the plating conditions. As a result, uniform metallic layer on monodisperse polystyrene seed sphere was successfully formed by the proper plating conditions developed in this study. |
