Crystallization is widely used in various industries. During a crystallization process, various parameters can affect the nucleation and growth of crystals. In presence of heterogeneous surfaces by microparticles or other solutes, nuclei can easily be formed via heterogeneous nucleation mechanism. In the crystallization, heterogeneous nucleation is known to be preferable compared to homogeneous nucleation. Crystallization behavior can reflect the changes of crystal morphology and nucleation time. In this study, the crystallization of polyphenol was performed in presence of polycaprolactone, polyethylene microparticles and metal ions. The effects of particles on crystallization varies depending on particle size, concentration, method of crystallization like cooling or drowning-out ones. Polyphenol crystallization with microparticles would be a way to make another type of composite materials and functional crystals. |
