제목 Isolated Mesoporous Microstructures by the Stress Localization-Induced Crack Manipulation
초록 Cracks are regarded as one type of deformations observed in brittle materials and are mostly considered as drawbacks and/or defects. Controlled cracks, however, can be a valuable technique for processing hard materials. Recently, various methods for controlling cracks have been introduced.
Herein, we report a new method of manipulating cracks on mesoporous microstructures through stress localization. The cracks are initiated by soft imprinting with micro-patterned PDMS molds and further propagated by concentrated stress due to the volume shrinkage of the structure upon sintering of TiO2 pastes. The well-controlled cracks formed along the valleys of the patterns isolate each microstructure, leading to well-defined mesoporous microstructures. We demonstrate that the degree of stress localization is determined by the thickness of film layer, NP size, heating rate and explain the results obtained based on fracture mechanics. Finally, by detaching these single isolated mesoporous prisms and pyramids from low adhesive substrates, mesoporous TiO2 wires and particles of uniform shape and size are successfully obtained.
