Our knowledge of the cell signal transduction has advanced over the last two decades, which leads to identify increasingly larger numbers of cell signaling components. Moreover, the information on the interaction of the molecules, i.e., biochemical interaction or reaction, has become available more and more. Nevertheless, much effort should be done to understand the cell signaling behavior quantitatively as well as qualitatively. In this study, for this purpose a conceptual framework for the representation and simulation of large signal transduction networks based on Petri net will be presented, followed by a case study application to a signaling system induced by Interleukin-1 (IL-1) and Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) known as potent proinflammatory cytokines. |
