Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have been extensively investigated to supply clean energy. Much attention has been spent to find effective systems toward the commercialization of PEMFCs. The most critical issue is known to be the CO poisoning of Pt catalysts due to the low operation temperature. In present study, we report the ionic liquid (IL) doped sulfonated block copolymer membranes for high temperature fuel cell applications. We investigated conductivity and morphology in anhydrous conditions by varying the ionic groups in ILs. Interestingly, it has been found that different ion pairing energies of ionic moieties play central roles in determining ionic conductivity of the systems. The ion pairing energy effects on conductivities of ionic liquid incorporated PEMs are studied by combining impedance spectroscopy, and Ab-initio calculation. |
