Polylactide is a bio degradable polyester which can be derived from renewable resources such as starch. Nanocellulose fiber derived from renewable biomass has an advantage as a filler due to its excellent reinforcing potential. However, due to their hydrophilic surface and high surface area, strong hydrogen bondings between both intermolecular and intramolecular make the cellulose flocculate, resulting in inefficient compounding with most nonpolar polymer matrix. In this study, cellulose nanowhiskers were separated from microcrystalline cellulose by acid hydrolysis using sulfuric acid, and surface modification was carried out by acetylation reaction. The acetylation cellulose nanowhikser have shown an improved dispersibility in non polar environment. The ACN introduced PLA composite films were prepared and characterized in terms of various properties.
