Engineered self-expander hydrogel for sustained release of drug molecules |

We present here a preparation of copolymer hydrogel composed of methyl-methacrylate and N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and in vitro release of anti-cancer drug doxorubicin from the self-expanded hydrogel in a physiological condition. The degree of expansion of self-expander copolymer was measured in various solutions and compared with commercially available expanders. We investigated the drug release profile of self-expander hydrogel loaded with doxorubicin before crosslinking. Anti-tumor effects of released drug molecules were evaluated by co-culturing self-expander copolymer with NIH3T3 cells or HUVEC control. Drug contained self-expander hydrogel may have a potential in biomedical applications, for example, implantation at the tissue area that requires physical support as well as anti-inflammatory drug release. |
