Willemite ceramics, Zn2SiO4 shows excellent quality factor (Q x f) of 219,000 GHz of microwave dielectric properties. However, Zn2SiO4 ceramics prepared by solid-state method is difficult to reproduce good microwave dielectric properties, due to the formation of ZnO secondary phase and abnormal grain growth. The citric acid sol-gel method is performed on an ionic scale in a solution and ceramics are prepared through gel state. For Zn2SiO4 with no secondary phase and uniform, reproducible grain growth, citric acid sol-gel method was investigated in the study as a function of the amount of TEOS. High quality factor (Q x f = 285,000 GHz) was obtained for the specimens sintered at 1300℃ for 3h with 5 mol% excess TEOS. The relationships between microstructure and microwave dielectric properties are also discussed. |
