This study was investigated the combustion characteristics of cypress specimen for the constructional interiors, especially focusing on smoke generation characteristics. Smoke production properties were measured using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-2). The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. Boric acid and ammonium pentaborate were used as flame retardants. Combination of the two compounds was used to observe the smoke behavior according to the concentration change. The total smoke release was 338.64 to 412.68 m2/m2, which was less than 453.5 m2/m2 of uncoated specimen. The total smoke production of all the specimens ranged from 2.99 to 3.65 m2, which was less than 4.01 m2 of uncoated specimen. The peak smoke production release was 0.0207 to 0.0229 m2/s, which was smaller than 0.0257 m2/s of cypress wood. The combined concentration of the specimens with the lowest amount of smoke generation was 30 wt%. |
