Carbon nanotube fiber (CNTF) is a hierarchically-structured assembly of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) which possess exceptional mechanical and electrical properties. Ideally, CNTFs are expected to possess the properties comparable to those of individual CNTs, but in reality, CNTFs still have properties that are just a few percent of that of individual CNTs. In this presentation, research efforts devoted for the development of CNTFs with higher strength and electrical conductivity and the critical findings obtained during undergoing the related research projects since 2014 at KIST Jeonbuk will be introduced. The presentation covers two sub-topics: i) the synthesis of high-quality CNTF using the direct spinning and ii) the fast and continuous densification of as-spun CNTF for high-performance CNTF. |
