In the separation of p-chlorophenol from aqueous solution by liquid emulsion membrane, the efficacy of ultrasonic homogenization was investigated. Major variables were concentrations of Span 80 and Tween 80 surfactants, ultrasonic intensity, pH of external phase solution and contact time. Using an ultrasonic homogenizer, the most effective separation of 99.3 % was achieved at the amplitude of 40 watt, the emulsification time of 90 sec and the contact time of 7 min. As a result of this study, the membrane breakup brought about by ultrasonic homogenizer was less than that by mechanical stirring. |
