The current fabrication processes of graphene-polymer composites have unsolved limitations such as difficulty in homogeneous distribution of graphene in the matrices. Here we present a general approach for the preparation of graphene-polymer composites via freeze drying. In this preparation, a matrix was frozen systematically. Thus, the polymer and graphene sheets were excluded from the growing ice crystals, and they aggregated inbetween the growing crystals, leading to unique structures. After freezing, the ice crystals were removed by freeze drying leading to porous structures. The process successfully produced well dispersed graphene along with unique polymer wall structures. Subsequent hot pressing could prepare composite films having graphene sheets connected, which could exhibit improved thermal, mechanical and electrical properties. This approach of producing graphene-polymer composites provides a novel path to prepare key materials forfuture applications. |
