Preparation and Characterizaion of PBI/Nafion Ionomer for PEMFC at high-temperature |

The current polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) technology is based on perfluorosulfonic acid polymer membranes (e.g. Nafion) as electrolyte. But proton conductivity of nafion is acceptable only at elevated hydration levels, thus nafion membranes is not suitable for PEMFC at high-temperature. The PBI membranes are good thermal stability and good proton conductivity at high-temperature. In this work, to use PBI membrane for PEMFC at high-temperature, new PBI/Nafion ionomer was preparation. The PBIs are synthesized from 3,3-diaminobenzidine, pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid and polyphosphoric acid as solvent. And each PBI solution blend with variable contents of nafion solution. Adhesion of ionomer with membrane and electrode was measured by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The performances of the MEA which was make of PBI/Nafion ionomer measured by Fuel Cell Station and Impedence Analyzer. |
