Anisotropic nanofiber mats containing self-assembled ion-exchanged Sunset-Yellow FCF discotic nanocolumns were successfully fabricated by electrospinning of a poly(vinylpyrrolidone)/H-SSY/H2O solution exhibiting a biphase of nematic (N) and isotropic (I) phase. Morphologies of the anisotropic nanofiber mats were investigated by scanning electron microscopeand polarized optical microscope. Molecular orientations and structures of H-SSY confined in the anisotropic nanofiber mats were also identified by the combined techniques of POM, two-dimensional wide-angle X-ray diffraction and polarized Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Based on the experimental results, it was realized that H-SSY molecules in PVP/H-SSY nanofibers self-assembled to nanocolumns, which long axes were parallel to the long axis of anisotropic nanofiber. Additionally, 2D WAXD results clearly revealed that the electrospun nanofiber was not in a crystalline phase but in a glassy columnar N phase. |
