Highly sulfonated proton exchange membranes were fabricated from sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers (SPAESs) containing different bisphenol moieties by a nucleophilic aromatic substitution and a sequent solution casting technique. Bisphenol (BP), 4,4’-hexafluoroisopropylidenediphenol (6F-BPA) and 9,9’-bis(hydroxyphenyl)fluorene (HPF) were used as dihydroxide monomers to investigate anticipated differences in the proton conductivity, methanol crossover, thermal and mechanical stability. Resulting copolymers and membranes were characterized by various analytic methods, and their performances for both PEMFC and DMFC applications were examined thoroughly. |
