Microfluidic systems for generation of uniform microstructures |

Here we present a simple method for the production of uniform polyurethane (PU) microbeads and microfibers using PDMS based flow focusing microfluidic device. Spherical monomer emulsions or cylindrical monomer jet stream could be formed at junction due to the use of sheath flow of immiscible phase. Spherical and cylindrical formation of monomer phases were easily polymerized by UV irradiation in the microchannel. Moreover, the size of microbeads and microfibers were adjusted by varying important parameters such as flow rates of continuous and dispersed phase. |
