Electrical wire explosion (EWE) in liquid media is a promising method for producing metallic nano powders. The wire is exploded into nano powders in liquid media by high pulsed current and voltage. It is possible to get the high purity metallic nano particles and the uniform-sized nano powder by EWE method with excellent dispersion stability. Transition metal nanocrystals are widely taken as metallic catalysts and important components for nanoscale electronic device. When transition metals are used to the noble metal nanocrystals or alloys, improved physical properties are expected. For instance, Pt–Ni, Ag–Ni bimetals have shown superior electrochemical properties over pure noble metal or Ni metals for fuel cell uses. In this study, Ag wire coated with Ni was exploded in de-ionized water. But phase diagram of Ag/Ni shows that metals Ag and Ni are immiscible over the entire compositional range. So, we are going to produce Ag-Ni nanopowder by explosion in de-ionized water. The size and shape of the powders were investigated by FE-SEM, TEM and LPSA. Phase analysis and grain size determination are conducted by XRD. |
