Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were ozonized to enhance thermal and mechanical properties of biodegradable epoxy (B-epoxy) composites. B-epoxy was prepared from diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and epoxidized linseed oil (ELO). The surface properties of the ozone-treated MWCNTs (O-MWCNT) were Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry, and contact angle measurements. The thermal and mechanical properties of O-MWCNT/B-epoxy composites were examined by thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analyzer, critical stress intensity factor (KIC) tests, and impact strength tests. The thermal and mechanical properties of O-MWCNT/B-epoxy were enhanced compared to those of MWCNT/B-epoxy. These results could be considered that the interfacial adhension in MWCNT/B-epoxy composites was improved by surface functional groups of O-MWCNT. |
