In this work, the effects of ozone treatments on surface energetics and structural properties of carbon blacks (CB) and mechanical properties their various rubber composites were investigated. Morphology of the composites was observed by SEM. The surface and structural properties of CB by oxidation process of ozone were studied in XPS and XRD. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation at break, modulus, have been estimated on a UTM depending on ASTM D412. As a result, it was found that the introduction rate of oxygen-containing polar functional groups, onto the CB surfaces was increased by increasing the ozone treatment time. It revealed that the polar rubber, such as NBR, showed relatively a high degree of interaction with oxygen-containing functional groups of the CB surfaces, resulting in improving the mechanical properties of the composites. |
