Hollow polymer microspheres find many applications as paint, ink, paper industries, cosmetic formulations, floating materials for absorbing organic oils, and so forth, because they show many attractive characteristics, for example, low density, thermal insulation, encapsulation capacity. Most of the synthesis methods depend on the suspension polymerization or multistage seeded polymerization. However, the two approaches have inevitable drawbacks; it is difficult to control particle size distribution in the former and time-consuming meticulous procedures are necessary in the latter. In this work, we investigated the preparation method of hollow polymer micropheres based on SPG membrane emulsification and subsequent polymerization. Especially, evolution of morphology in terms of the formulation recipes has been focused. |
