A chemical looping (CL) based approach for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODH) using transition metal oxides was investigated to produce ethylene from ethane by reduction step and subsequently CO2 activation to CO by oxidation step. The FeCeTiOx mixed oxides were prepared by different Ce composition and calcination temperature for chemical looping application. The FeCeTiOx catalyst with a molar ratio of Fe:Ce:Ti=0.075:0.150:1 showed 10.8% ethane conversion and 71.1% ethylene selectivity at the reduction step of 550 oC. From the subsequent oxidation step at 700 oC, CO was produced with 0.26mmol/gcat by CO2 activation as well. Structural details and surface properties of FeCeTiOx redox catalyst were characterized by N2 sorption, TGA, XRD, XPS and TPR analysis to verify the active sites for the CL reaction of ethane and CO2 |
