fabrication and electrorheology of silica nanoparticle-polyaniline fiber nanocomposite |

We fabricated PANI fibers (300-400nm in diameter) via an interfacial polymerization in the presence of dodecylbenzylsulfate acid as a dopant . The fibers were modified by silica nanoparticles through a modified stober method, which was confirmed by both scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was also used to confirm successive modification of the silica partilces on the PANI fibers. Electrorheological (ER) characteristics of pure PANI fiber and silica modified PANI fiber based ER fluids in silicone oil were tested by a rotational rhometer (MC 120) equipped with a high voltage generator. Flow curves (shear stress vs. shear rate) of the two ER fluids are much different, in which PANI fiber based ER fluid showed higher and more stable ER effect, while silica modified fiber revealed novel ER performances rather than Bingham behaviors. Howerver these flow curves were fitted well by Cho-Choi-Jhon (CCJ) model. |
