The methyl acetate synthesis by the esterification of methanol with acetic acid was investigated to elucidate the effects of acid site modifiers of K, P, Zr on H-form Ferrierite (Al/Si = 20). The active sites for esterification are generally known to be bronsted acid sites with a proper acidic strength. Therefore, Ferrierite zeolite, which has a strong bronsted acid sites, was previously modified using an impregnation method, and the catalysts was denoted as M/Ferrierite, where M is for K, P, Zr with 1wt%. The reaction was carried out at a batch reactor at 2.0 MPa and 373 K. Among the tested catalysts, the superior activity was observed on the P/Ferrierite. The surface properties of the modified Ferrierite were further characterized using XRD, NH3-TPD and Py-IR analyses. |
