We studied on the removal of toluene vapors in a lab-scale biofilter. There are three biofilters packded with different porosity's reticulated polyurethane foams with porosities of 15, 25, 45 ppi(pore pore inch). A toluene-degrading strain(Pseudomonas. putida KCCM 11348, ATCC 12633) were naturally immobilized on the filter media by circulating the culture. Three biofilters were operated under the conditions of specific sets experiments of varying the design and operation parameter such as the inlet toluene concentrations and the flow rate. The head loss increased with respect to biomass accumulation have negative effect to low removal efficiency. Maximum elimination capacities of 115.5g/m3hr of biofilter 2 was recorded for toluene degradation. The effect of operating conditions such as flow rate, inlet toluene concentration and head loss on the performance of the biofilter was investigated in this study. |
