The self-healing polymer is recently attracting attention of researchers due to the improved durability and sustainability. Self-healing chemistries based on the dynamic features of imine linkages have been studied to impart creack recovery in polyurethanes. The diaminoimines(DAI) were synthesized from of glutaraldehyde and diamines and used for the chain extension of waterborne polyurethane (WPU). WPU is one of environmentally friendly colloids using water instead of the organic solvent as medium. Therefore, the WPUs have been used for coatings and adhesives. In this paper, we have investigated WPU prepared from a prepolymer of poly(tetramethylene ether glycol), dimethylol propionic acid and isophorone diisocyanate with DAI as a chain extenders. DAI imparted self-healability to WPU after film formations. Structure-property relationships of WPU films were investigated. Especially, effects of imine structures affecting self-healing properties of WPU films will be discussed. |
