Synthesis of Silica aerogel from Water Glass by Ambient Pressure Drying |

A hydrophobic mesoporous silica aerogel have been fabricated by modification of a sodium silicate-based wet-gel. The specific surface area and particle size can be controlled by surfactant quantity and mixing speed. The solution was passed through a column filled with an ion exchange resin and the surface-modified with TMCS / n-Hexane solution. After the powder synthesis, the sodium ion was characterized using EDS and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The microstructure of the aerogels was observed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Then, Characteristics of hydrophobic mesoporous silica aerogel was measured by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller equation (BET) and Thermal conductivity measurements. |
