Li metal has been considered to be ideal anode materials due to its remarkably high theoretical specific capacity of 3,860 mAh/g and low reaction voltage. However, our limited understanding of the complex mechanism of Li plating has hindered the commercial use of Li metal anodes. Therefore, operando studies are required to unambiguously reveal the complex mechanistic steps involved. In this presentiaton, I will talk about X-ray imaging methods to visualize Li nucleation and growth under operando and pracical conditions for battery opration, which will provide detaild insights into morphology evolution during Li plating. Also, the effects of critical battery operation parameters, including current density, various electrolytes and additivies, on Li plating will be introduced. |
