제목 The Characteristics of Organo-Montmorillonite/NBR Nanocomposites with Silane Coupling Agent
초록 In this study, C18-MMT/NBR/coupling agent nanocomposites were prepared by a melt intercalation process at 50∼60℃. During the melt compounding, organo-montmorillonite(MMT) particles were clearly observed that had been exfoliated into nanoscale layers with about 10∼20 nm thickness from their original 40μm particle size and these MMT layers were dispersed in NBR matrix uniformly.
The effects of coupling agent such as 3-(mercaptopropyl)trimethoxy silane in the C18-MMT/NBR nanocomposite had been studied. The C18-MMT/NBR nanocomposites in presence of coupling agent were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, universal testing machine(UTM), thermogravimetric analysis and infrared spectroscopic. It is observed that addition of the silane coupling agent, 3-(mercaptopropyl)trimethoxy silane, enhances the chemical interaction with the formation of coupling bonds of Si-O-Si type between C18-MMT and coupling agent and Si-C bonds between NBR and the coupling agent.
The above improved properties are due to nanoscale effects and strong interaction of coupling bonds between NBR and organo-montmorillonite
