제목 Effect of Preparation and Characterization of Expandable Graphite and Its Nanocomposite with Polymer
초록 It is well-known that unlike clay materials, graphite is thermally and electrically conductive and has an elastic modulus that is 10-15 times that of clay. It is also thermally stable at high temperature and effective for EMI shielding purposes. Graphites are of layered structure whose layers are held together by weak van der Waals forces. Expandable graphites, which are composed of natural graphite flake with high aspect ratio and intercalate, can expanded up to dozens or hundreds times of its pristine volume at high temperature, along the c axis of graphene layers. This unique phenomenon results in a puffed-up material with low density and probably make intercalation or exfoliation easier and more effective for polymer nanocomposites. The aim of this presentation is to prepare and characterize polymer- expandable graphite nanocomposite materials. In this work phenylethynyl-terminated polyimide was used as polymer matrix. Expanded graphites were thermally prepared around 600℃ and finely pulverized using ultrasonic and ball-milling techniques. Different composites were also prepared with addition of graphite powder and natural graphite flake of 1 wt % into the polymer matrix, respectively, for comparison. The size and content effect of the expanded graphites used will be considered. A variety of composite properties will be studied.
