Surface Micelle formation of polyelectrolyte random copolymer at the air/water Interface |
초록 |
Langmuir monolayers of low charged (4%-35%) poly( styrene-ran- styrene sulfonic acid) have been studied at the air/water by Langmuir balance technique, and further Langmuir Blodgett (LB) films have been characterized by scanning probe microscopy. Balanced by two competing interactions, hydrophobic interaction between styrene and electrostatic interaction between sulfonated styrene moieties, very stable surface micelles have been produced. Their structure and size were then correlated with the π–A phase diagrams. From the results, w could categorize the interfacial behavior of 4%-35% of PSSA into three different regimes. When the sulfonation rate is lower than 5%, homogeneous flat plates with precipitated polystyrene domains were observed. For 6%-18% of PSSA, we observed well dispersed surface micelle having a diameter from 100-200nm during the gas phase whose size increased up to 300nm for liquid phase and finally got merged in solid phase. The third regime was the ‘polyelectrolyte regime’ for 35% where we observed 200nm sized micelle during gas phase, which converted into elongated domains during solid phase. |
